All-Pro Basketball
All-Pro Basketball follows in the Double Dribble tradition of NES Basketball games. Unfortunately, this game's delivery is short of a classic. The game itself is average to so-so in most areas, but it has fantastic close-up shots of the players only rivaled in Double Dribble. What drags the game down is its awkward court layout. Picture this: no matter switch team is headed toward their goal, their running up the screen to the top. Whenever the player with the ball crosses the midpoint of the court, the action stops, the board is reflected on the TV screen, and the action resumes. Not only is it weird and disorienting, but the action halts gratuitously. I commend the programmers and designers for thinking creatively, but this idea doesn't work and cripples the game. My last gripe: disappointing half-time show, the cheerleaders are drawn so poorly they could be mistaken for fish-headed monsters.
