My Thoughts About Funcoland
I'm sure you all have heard the news that sometime during the summer of 2001 all Funcolands will stop buying NES games and will just sell off their remaining games. Of course, all us avid NES collectors are quite furious at this depressing intelligence. many people express their burning hatred of funcoland and its employees, but I have had mostly good experineces. The employees I meet don't push their cleaning kits all the time, and my only real complaint is I have to wait forever for the workers to maunually loacte the price of each game (I really wish they would just put a tag on them all). The only other venues for NES games are the other collectors; who never want to sell, the other used video game stores; where the prices are artificially high, you might pay $10 for Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt; and eBay, where because of insane competition, you'll pay as much as three times the game's retail value. I understand how the funcoland stores feel; hundreds of customers sell their NES collections to the stores, and most places stock 200 copies of Super Mario Bros and other games they simply can't sell. Because of these problems, I have been trying for many weeks to finish my collection ASAP (100 games remain). I placed an order for all the instock games at the funcoland.com store that I didn't have. I was happy, as all the games arrived in 2 weeks and worked. Backordered games have been less sucessful. It's been over a month and I have only received 2 out of the 10 games I backordered. I weekly check on fumcolands around my area and other used game stores, but I usually have little luck, finding on average one game bi-weekly. Since I have exhausted the traditional venues, I find myself sadly resorting to ebay and running out of money quickly. I WILL possess all the beautiful NES games. My advice to all collectors is to buy as many games as they can. People are less willing to sell them, and their prices and rarity will only increase.
