NES STRATEGY GUIDES
OK, back in The Golden Days of Nintendo, many a authorized and unauthorized strategy guides existed. If you can find any NES Strategy Guides, they might be worth adding to your collection. However, you need to use "The Guide to Collecting Strategy Guides ." Note: only original 8-bit guide here.
The Good: (mostly published by Nintendo themselves, very few, if any errors. The NP issues that few guides are very good; the only problem is that they cop out on the final level {boss} of the game)
The Official Nintendo Player's Guide (90 games reviewed, plus maps and strategies. The Best!)
The NES Game Atlas (very good, TONPG's little brother)
Final Fantasy Strategy Guide NP Issue 17 (The must-have guide to FF!!!)
Super Mario Bros. 3 Strategy Guide NP Issue 13? (same as above for SMB3)
Ninja Gaiden II Strategy Guide NP Issue ?? (same as above for NGII)
Top Secret Passwords NP No Issue (Free Player's Guide) {Nice database of NES, GB, and SNES codes}
Unauthorized Guides that are good:
How to Win at Nintendo by Jeff Rovin (books 1-4) {Must have walkthroughs!}
Nintendo Games Secrets by Rusel DeMaria published by Prima (books 1-4) {More walkthroughs}
The bad and the ugly:
Pretty much any guide not listed above is pure crap just designed to cash in on the Nintendo crazy of the 80's. These books and/or magazines usually have two things in common:
1) Lots of pictures, very few tips at all.
2) Pictures and the wrong captions under them, and false information.
Two such examples of these books are
From the Editors of Consumer Guide, Strategies for Nintendo Games
" " " " " " , Winning Tips for Nintendo.
STAY AWAY FROM THESE!!!
