NES Memorbilia

Over the years Nintendo released a number of products, being the whore masters of merchandise they are. :D Most were bad and horribly tacky, some were good. Of course, when I was seven years old, it seemed you could get any product with Mario or Link on it; I'm sure the products weren't everywhere like I thought, as that as been taken up by Hello Kitty and Nintendo's Flagship/Keeping the company alive Pokemon (Pocket Monsters) since 1997. Some merchandise just seems so SO wrong: Hello Kitty "muscle" massager vibrators, douche, and tampons, and Pokemon bandages. Think about it: doesn't it seem strange to associate cute animals with bloody wounds, feminine hygiene, and self-sexual gratification? =D

The following are pictures and information on some, but not all, products. I am trying to gather up as much information on each product as possible so if you have something contribute send it to me.

Nintendo Backpack

I had completely forgotten about this backpack until I was looking through some pictures of my first day of school and noticed it. I bought this backpack in 1989 sometime during the Summer. I remember that it was not really big and I had a tough time fitting anything in it, but I used it for 2 years because it had Mario on it. I have not seen this again since I had it. So if you see one you might want to just pick it up for the hell of it, because it is sorta neat.

Nintendo Scratch off Cards

These cards came with the Nintendo cereal. The scratch cards were supposed to be a game. You scratch the grey dots (which are extremely hard to scratch off) and if you scratch the right dot you can proceed in the game. If you completed the entire game you won a free Nintendo game. Occasionaly you could find a game sticker (also pictured above). I came across these looking through a huge box of baseball cards. I have managed to find cards of the games Double Dragon, Punch Out, Super Mario 1, Super Mario 2, Zelda, and Zelda 2.

McDonald's Toys

These things came in Happy Meals at McDonalds around the release of Super Mario Bros. 3. These toys also marked the price of the Happy Meal falling to $1.99. When I heard that these toys were being given away at McDonalds I ran to my Grandparents and begged them to take me. To the left is a picture of the Goomba toy. I also have the Mario one.

Nintendo:Mario and Zelda Cereal

I got the left pic of the Nintendo Cereal System out of an old JLA comic so the box looks sorta weird. You could buy this cereal at the store in a box with half Zelda (Berry) and half Mario (Fruity). In the Mario cereal there were Marios, Flowers, and Goombas in the Zelda cereal there were Links, Hearts, and Shields. Like I mentioned before cards came with the box. This is about all I know, other than I liked the Mario cereal better. And of course, you need an official Mario bowl in which to eat your cereal.

Legend of Zelda Beach Towel

Actually, my version of this towel is green, not red, but same design.

Mario Beach Towel

Believe it or not, I still have this. Unfortunately, no picture yet. It isn't the shark version, but has Mario and Luigi on it in the typical Mario jump pose like on the cover of SMB 2.

Mario Bedsheets

OK, I didn't have these, but Mario bedsheets are kinda neat, kinda pathetic. However, I always liked the design.

Mario Ice Cream Sandwiches

I don't know what Nintendo put in these, but BOY WERE THEY GOOD! I used to eat 10 of these a day while I sat around trying to beat Super Mario Bros. 2.

Mario Lunchbox

My Mario lunchbox served me very well in elementary school. If I still had it, it would be faded beyond belief. The designs, as you can see, are quite nice; many Nintendo products (made through 3rd party companies under license) had disgustingly bad images.

Mario Pencilcase & Pencils

Amazingly, I owned this. Not amazingly, I never really used it. Misc: for some reason I can't explain, the art looks "Japanese" to me.

Mario Plushies

I didn't have these plushies, but I did get a 4 feet tall Luigi doll for free several years ago. It's currently with my best friend Chris.

Mario Sodas

Flavored mario sodas, but more like carbonated fruit drinks. My favorites were Princess (cherry) and Mario Punch. I didn't care much for Yoshi, ho was sadly stuck with Apple, the juice that resembles urine. :) Bah, none of the Nintendo drinks could hold a candle to Delta Airlines Dusty Punch. (Dusty was the mascot). I would have bought that by the 48 CASE if available in stores!!!

Mario Bros 2 T-shirt

I have no picture, but I used to wear a blue Mario 2 T-shirt all the time. Same design as the game cover.

Mario Bros. 3 Trash Can

Unfortunately, I had a Mario 3 trash can with the Doom ship on it, but I have no picture yet.

Mario Watch

Mine was black, not girly pink =) It's a Mario watch, which wasn't so great at telling time, but its main draw was a mini Mario game. You went through a generic castle level. It was pretty stupid, being a handheld game. It also reminds me of my Tiger Electronics Castlevania 2 game (also sucks) and Gauntlet 2 (not that bad, but I ALWAYS ran out of time by the 3rd or 4th level).
