Chapter 4
Reassignment


On Tuesday, Irene flew to Washington. She told Ryu that she would miss him, but she would return on Wednesday evening. The screening was long and hard for Irene. The doctor asked her what Jaquio did to her. How she was raped. What she felt when she was stabbed by Ashtar. What did she think when she saw Jaquio again. He made her remember what  she wanted to forget. After three hours, she wanted to die. 
Then there was a five-hour analysis of her interview. She couldn’t take the wait anymore and left. Before flying back to New York, she left Ryu’s decision with the proper official. 

"That’s unfortunate," he said. But the way which he said it, with an evil implication, chilled her.

No sooner had she returned to the apartment and kissed Ryu, when the phone rang.

"Damn, they have good satellites," she laughed.

The phone call was for her. "Ms. Irene Lew, this is Doctor Peters, I screened you this morning. Based on our analysis, we regret to inform you that while you are mental healthy, you are too unstable to continue with your ‘active service’. Thus, we have decided to move you to a desk job, where you will be more useful. Are you all right, Ms. Lew?"
"Yes, I’m fine. Goodbye,"
Irene hung up the phone and hugged Ryu. She couldn’t be happier.
